The Life That Never Should Have Been Lived

Okay, so I was wrong about Warren, but I was totally right about Jefferson. That whole situation gave me shivers, but in a good way. Such good storytelling! As terrifying as what Jefferson was doing to the girls, the fact that Max just kept repeating it over and over again was so much worse. The nightmare stage was absolutely horrifying and wonderful at the same time, to see how things were twisted from their origins. Trying to find the bottles in the dark was extremely nerve-wracking. And then that last choice. Literally the only thing I knew about Life is Strange going into the game was that final choice. It didn’t ruin my game experience, to my relief, because I didn’t have the slightest clue about the game play until that exact point that I had seen in “Saddest Video Game Endings Ever” compilations on YouTube. To be honest, Chloe asking me to let her die during the past rewind was much sadder to me than the lighthouse choice. As I said in a previous blog, I am not a Chloe fan, so the choice was easy for me to make. Save Arcadia Bay and the lives of so many rather than the life that never should have been lived. That might sound rather harsh, but everything started when Max saved Chloe in the bathroom. She didn’t even know it was her childhood friend at that time. Chloe’s life should have ended there and it was Max’s messing with the timeline that muddled the universe. Granted, it was really horrible to watch Max huddled in the bathroom corner, crying as Chloe was shot for good this time. I ended up watching the alternative ending where Max chose her friend and it just made me angry how they drove away from it all. That level of mass destruction was all Max and she was just running away. Regardless of the ending though, it was a very interesting and beautiful game.
